Check out our South Park Elementary Broncs that were nominated and celebrated as Students of the Month on Thursday, October 5th, for being great role models and excellent examples of what leaders can be in our school!

In the Belle Fourche School District, we pride ourselves in providing each and every student the confidence and opportunities to shine as active leaders both inside and outside of the classroom, building the essential skills that will help them succeed in both the present and future as lifelong learners and leaders who build both themselves and others up!

In order to help students understand what it means to be a leader, the importance of being a leader for both ourselves and others, and to recognize that they each possess unique strength and abilities to be a leader, students in the Belle Fourche Elementary buildings have been participating in an online program called Leader in Me. Students participate in Leader in Me with their teachers each school day to help students develop mindsets, skills and behaviors that can help them succeed both inside and outside of school. This is done through studying and practicing seven foundational habits that will help students to develop their personal effectiveness to guide them on the road to happiness and help them lead the changes that will make the world a better place.

The seven effective habits that our schools work to helps students build to be great leaders and role models include:

We are so proud of our South Park leaders for demonstrating these foundational habits in ways that best fit their unique strengths, and we rewarded this month’s leaders with not only their own leader medal and certificates, and a picture with Buster the Bronc, but also a gift certificate for a free meal at Applebee’s:

  • Treyton Vetter (1st Grade) showed leadership by using Habit #2 of Beginning with the End in Mind by being prepared for his day and working hard during class time.
  • Our other 1st Grade nominee  showed she was a leader through being proactive (Habit #1), and by taking charge of her choices through following directions very well in the classroom!
  • Keyonna Daniels (2nd Grade) showed leadership through being proactive (Habit #1) and beginning with the end in mind (Habit #2), by setting goals and being prepared for the challenges that came her way.
  • Bridger Lynch (2nd Grade) was a leader in his classroom by being proactive (Habit #1) and beginning with the end in mind (Habit #2), by having such a great attitude when working towards his goals and being respectful to others in the classroom.
  • Kortney Dobesh (3rd Grade) was a role model through being proactive (Habit #1) by showing a great amount of integrity in the classroom while consistently doing her work and making sure everyone feels included.
  • Alice Bonefield (3rd Grade) has been actively striving to hone her skills in all seven habits, and we are so proud to see how she has been especially using her growth mindset through Habit #1’s Be Proactive by working hard, no matter the task!
  • Aubyn Hartmann (4th Grade) was nominated by her classmates as one of this month’s leaders for a variety of great leadership qualities and habits that her classmates have noticed, such as especially showing her abilities in Sharpening the Saw (Habit #7) and Listen Before Speaking (Habit #5) in the classroom.
  • Lola Hoffman (4th Grade) showed leadership in the classroom through her ability to be proactive (Habit #1) by using her growth mindset to lead her learning and through always participating in classroom conversations!

We thank our Belle Fourche families, school staff, hardworking students, and community organizations and programs that all come together to help provide students the opportunities, tools, and skills they need to help our students be their best selves and live their best, successful lives! We also very much look forward to future assemblies honoring our Leaders of the Month at South Park, as well as all the leadership opportunities Belle Fourche School District and the Belle Fourche community provides each of our schools as the school year continues to progress!

Way to go South Park Broncs for being amazing leaders, keep up the great work!
