In the Belle Fourche School District, we take pride in empowering every student to become confident, active leaders both in and out of the classroom. We focus on developing essential skills that will support their success as lifelong learners and leaders who uplift themselves and others. Just the same as last year, students in the Belle Fourche Elementary schools this school year have been engaging with an online program called Leader in Me. During the Fourth month of this initiative, we are recognizing students who exemplify the leadership qualities emphasized in the program. Each school day, our young Bronc students practice and study seven foundational habits designed to enhance their personal effectiveness, guiding them toward happiness and enabling them to lead positive change in the world.

Our South Park leaders nominated and celebrated this month at our assembly for the month of December for their outstanding leadership skills included:
1st Grade Winners:
The winner from 1st grade uses all the 7 Habits well, but especially Habit 1-be proactive by working hard to listen and complete anything he can in class. He is an awesome friend and is always helping others both inside and outside of the classroom. This leader is Lane Fickbohm.
2nd Grade Winners:
Our first winner from 2nd grade showed leadership using Habit 4- think win-win by having a “How can I help?” attitude. She also uses Habit 5-seek first to understand then be understood by giving others her full focus without interrupting. She goes out of her way to encourage others! This leader is Olivia Grosz.
The next winner from 2nd grade showed their leadership through using habit Habit 4-think win-win by putting others before himself and wanting to see his classmates succeed. He is a friend uplifts his peers and shows that his classmates are family daily. This leader is Adrian Cuff.
3rd Grade Winners:
Our first winner from 3rd grade showed his leadership skills using Habit 1-be proactive, and Habit 4-think win-win. He works hard to get his work done on time, and gets along well with his classmates, as well as being polite to his teacher. He enjoys being challenged! This leader is Stetson Wilen.
The next winner from 3rd grade lead using Habit 3-work first then play and Habit 5- seek first to understand then be understood by always being ready to listen and work his hardest. He is a great friend to others and is constantly encouraging his peers! This leader is Hank Janish.
4th Grade Winners:
Our first winner from 4th grade was a leader using Habit 2-begin with the end in mind and Habit 3-put first things first. He shows he’s a great role model for his classmates by completing his work on time, as well as using Habit 6-synergize to be a positive light when working with others and believes everyone has something good to give to the group. This leader is Corbin Selchert.
Our second winner from 4th grade was nominated by her classmates because she uses Habit 6-synergize and Habit 4-think win-win. She shows her kindness by working well with others and wanting to see her classroom succeed. She has brightened her classmates days and showed how hard-working and focused she is. This leader is Ila Seaman.

We are incredibly proud of our South Park leaders for embodying these foundational habits in ways that highlight their unique strengths. This month, we celebrated our leaders with not only their own leader medals and certificates, but also a gift certificate for a free DQ Blizzard for South Park Students.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Belle Fourche families, school staff, dedicated students, and community organizations for coming together to provide the opportunities, tools, and skills that empower our students to thrive and reach their fullest potential. We are also excited for next month’s Leader in Me assembly at South Park, where we will celebrate our hardworking young Broncs as they continue to develop essential leadership skills.
