In the Belle Fourche School District, we take pride in empowering every student to become confident, active leaders both in and out of the classroom. We focus on developing essential skills that will support their success as lifelong learners and leaders who uplift themselves and others. Just the same as last year, students in the Belle Fourche Elementary schools this school year have been engaging with an online program called Leader in Me. During the fifth month of this initiative, we are recognizing students who exemplify the leadership qualities emphasized in the program. Each school day, our young Bronc students practice and study seven foundational habits designed to enhance their personal effectiveness, guiding them toward happiness and enabling them to lead positive change in the world.

1st Grade Winners:
Our first winner from 1st grade showed leadership using habit 1-be proactive by taking initiate at doing the right thing first as well as having a positive attitude towards her classmates and teacher. She excels at habit 3-put first things first by being very organized. This leader is Charlie Hennessey.
The next winner from 1st grade lead by using habit 1-be proactive by doing what is asked of her and being willing to help others. She also uses habit 2-begin with the end in mind and habit 3-put first things first by setting goals for herself daily, meeting those goals regularly and completing her best work. This leader is Harper Viergets.
2nd Grade Winners:
Our first winner from 2nd grade has mastered habit 1-be proactive by trying his best every day to be positive, even when the schedule is different or he’s unsure. He perseveres in the classroom and at home. He loves to share interesting facts and asks his teachers wonderful questions. This leader is Raidyn Hunter!
Our next winner from 2nd grade has mastered habit 3-put first things first. She gets her work done right away and always tries her best. Her teachers can count on her to follow directions the first time and stay on task. She not only finishes her work on time, but makes time to help others too. She is a kind friend and is sure to include others in activities. This leader is Caydee Coyle!
3rd Grade Winners:
Our first winner from 3rd grade showed her leadership skills She shows us her “Leader in Me” skills every day. For example, she uses habit 1- be proactive and habit 3- put first things first by being involved in class and getting her work done on time. She made some friends and shows habit 4- think “Win-win” by how well she treats others. This leader is Delilah Owens.
The next winner from 3rd grade leads by using Habit 1-Be Proactive by always being willing to help, listening without interrupting, and she is always willing to collaborate with anyone. She is always doing the right thing, even if a teacher is out of the room. This leader is Madaline Schmeusser.
4th Grade Winners:
Our first winner from 4th grade was a leader using all the 7 habits. She uses habit 1-be proactive by coming to school with a great attitude each day. She uses habit 4-think win-win by being very helpful to other classmates and being a great friend. She is very responsible and completes and brings back her homework on time. This leader is Brekyn Montgomery.
Our second winner from 4th grade uses habit 1-be proactive each day by coming in and getting right to work. Her teacher can always count on her to do the right thing and her behavior and responsibility are outstanding. She is an amazing student that brightens her classroom. This leader is Maleah Williamson.

We are incredibly proud of our South Park leaders for embodying these foundational habits in ways that highlight their unique strengths. This month, we celebrated our leaders with not only their own leader medals and certificates, but also a gift certificate for a free DQ Blizzard.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Belle Fourche families, school staff, dedicated students, and community organizations for coming together to provide the opportunities, tools, and skills that empower our students to thrive and reach their fullest potential. We are also excited for next month’s Leader in Me assembly at South Park , where we will celebrate our hardworking young Broncs as they continue to develop essential leadership skills.
